A Wooden Balance Bike to Learn to Ride

Categorized: Toys | No comments

One of the hardest things we have to tackle as a parent is teaching a child how to ride a bike. There is often a lot of frustration involved once the training wheels come off and they are on their own. However, there is a way you can make it a little easier for your child and yourself. You can start your child off on a wooden balance bike to make learning a whole lot easier.

A balance bike looks like a regular bike, but it has no pedals or training wheels. The child powers the bike by walking or running while seated on the bike. As the child gains more and more confidence they may start to coast small distances until they are comfortably gliding down small grades and hills.

By using a wooden balance bike in the beginning the child can focus on the balance aspect of learning to ride a bike. This is often the hardest part because the child is trying to concentrate on pedaling and steering at the same time. A balance bike allows them to focus all their energy on learning to balance.

Children as young as two can start on a balance bike. As you can imagine, this is a great advantage for when they are old enough for a real bike. Most balance bikes are height adjustable so they can grow with the child.

Wooden balance bikes are easily customizable because they can be painted. They also have large surface areas that can be decorated with stickers. Kids love customizing their bikes and wooden balance bikes are perfect for this. There even specific boy’s and girl’s wooden balance bikes.

Try getting a balance bike if your child is young enough. You will not regret it when it comes time to move up to a regular bike. Just like with regular cycling, don’t forget to have your child wear a helmet even if they are riding their balance bike in the grass.
