Baby activity mats are loved by both babies and their parents. Activity mats allow for some much needed and enjoyed tummy time for your precious infant. Most of the time of a newborns life is spent on their back looking up at the world around them. When given an activity mat their world is flipped up side down and they see their surroundings from a whole different view. Activity mats give babies a new way to stretch and grow their muscles. They squirm and wiggle and enjoy looking at a whole variety of new colors, shapes and designs.
These mats are made by a variety of manufacturers and come in various sizes and shapes. The one thing they have in common, however, is that they are made to be used on the floor. Some are just flat mats, others are flat mats with tummy and shoulder supports and others still are made with fabric bars crossing above the mats. Each design has it own strengths and each is made to entice you the parent that this one is the one you must have. Which ever one you decide on though, is an added bonus for your infant. It gets them stretching and building those neck and shoulder muscles and gets those arms and legs moving in new directions and learning just what they are made for.
Many activity mats are made to coordinate with other baby products in the same design and line. It does not matter, however, whether you purchase it as one in a line of many products or as an independent item. In fact, some say the independent line is better as it gives your child new and different items to explore. Often the product lines are designed to capture the parents attention and purse strings rather than the child’s attention.
