There is nothing more special than a newborn baby. However, before that baby arrives there is nothing more exciting than shopping for the new baby! This includes the all important tiny baby clothes that your newborn will need in the first few months of their life. However, before you go shopping there are a few things you need to know about shopping for baby clothes.

Different Sizes
Although most babies start out life a fairly standard size, you cannot guarantee that your baby will. It is a good idea to buy a few sets of really tiny clothes as well as a few larger clothes in case your baby is a larger than average birth weight. This will cover you for all eventualities and you can always donate any clothes you don’t use to charity.

Material
It is important to remember that a baby does not distinguish between brand name and cheap clothes, but they can distinguish the comfort of a material. Organic cotton is one of the best choices for a baby because their skin can be sensitive to the harsh chemicals and dyes used in many modern clothes. If you don’t want to pay extra for organic cotton you could buy regular cotton and wash it a few times before dressing your baby in it to remove the chemicals.

Gifts and Growth
It’s a good idea not to purchase too many newborn baby clothes because there is a good chance that you will receive lots of clothes as gifts. It is also worth considering that a baby grown very quickly in their first year and they may not be able to wear everything you buy. Amazingly, a newborn can go through 3 different sizes of clothes in the first 2 months!

Shopping for a newborn is fun, but remember not to get carried away with your purchases. Try to buy clothes that are suitable for both genders, even if you have been told the gender via ultrasound as this has been known to be inaccurate on occasion.
