If you’re expecting a new baby some time in the next few months then no doubt you’ll soon begin shopping for the new arrival, if you haven’t already. Shopping for those first little tiny outfits of baby’s first toy can be a great experience for parents but you may start to feel a little overwhelmed once you realize the sheer range of baby products available. It helps to have some kind of idea of what you really need for a newborn which will help you make your own shopping list.
A newborn baby’s needs are very simple. Many mothers panic about not being ready for their baby but in actual fact as long as they have a few items of clothing, some kind of sleeping area and a bottle if they aren’t breastfeeding, little else is needed – that pink baby walker you’ve had your eye on can wait!
Probably one of the first things you’ll think about buying is clothing. As with everything else to do with babies, there is a huge range available, but using a baby clothes list will help you stick to the essentials.
A baby bed is the next main consideration after choosing clothing. Most people choose a bassinet or moses basket for their newborn, switching to a full size crib when their baby is a few months old. Baby bedding and blankets are another essential for baby sleep and come in all sorts of designs and materials so you can buy depending on your personal tastes and preferences.
Whether you’re breast or bottle feeding, a couple of bottles will always be useful. Keep them sterilized by either soaking in sterilizing solution, boiling, or using an electrical or microwave sterilizer. You may also wish to invest in a breast pump if you are hoping to breastfeed.
It may be the least exciting item on your list, but a good quality car seat is certainly essential for the wellbeing of your baby. Make sure you have one in good time for the birth of your baby.
